Community Q&A: Diabetic Patients’ Questions and Answers

I had prediabetes one year ago. Then after some lifestyle changes, my sugar levels are pretty normal. I want to make sure I do not get into prediabetic range again. I am 38 years old from Maharashtra India. What are the common symptoms of prediabetes to watch out for? Last time I did not notice any visible signs when I was checked for prediabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. It is important to be aware of the common symptoms of prediabetes in order to take necessary precautions and maintain healthy blood sugar levels. However, it’s worth noting that prediabetes may not always present with visible signs or symptoms, which makes regular screenings and monitoring important. Here are some common symptoms to watch out for:

  1. Increased thirst: Feeling unusually thirsty and needing to drink more water than usual.
  2. Frequent urination: Needing to urinate more frequently, especially during the night.
  3. Fatigue: Experiencing tiredness or lack of energy despite getting adequate rest.
  4. Blurred vision: Having difficulty focusing or experiencing blurred vision.
  5. Slow healing: Wounds, cuts, or bruises taking longer than usual to heal.
  6. Increased hunger: Feeling hungry frequently, even after eating a meal.
  7. Weight loss or gain: Experiencing unexplained weight loss or weight gain.
  8. Tingling or numbness: Feeling tingling or numbness in the hands or feet.
  9. Darkened skin patches: Developing patches of darkened skin, particularly around the neck and armpits.
  10. Recurring infections: Having frequent infections, such as urinary tract infections or yeast infections.

Remember that these symptoms can also be indicative of other health conditions, so it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and maintaining a healthy weight, can help reduce the risk of prediabetes progressing to type 2 diabetes.
